An author spends a vast majority of time considering what the theme of the story they are writing will be. The reader is rewarded with an understanding about life or a lesson that can be learned. When considering theme a reader can determine what the author might have been thinking by analyzing different aspects of the story. One can look at the characters' actions, determine how the setting may play a role in determining the theme, find out how characters face and deal with conflict, and look for clues in the title of the selection.
In this discussion, analyze the theme of the story "Scout's Honor." What do you think the theme of the story is and what helped you to reach that conclusion?
Discuss another story that you've read in which the theme is really apparent. Respond to at least one other classmate's post to add information or ask a question.
Enjoy your discussion!

I think the theme is Lies have Conseceuences and I think that beccause they lied to others and they were stuck in the wilds, I can't think of a story that has a easy theme but I MIGHT post again if I think of one

I pick the first Diary of a Wimpy kid, it's theme is don't try to be who you aren't
DeleteI think the theme of the story is to NEVER EVER GIVE UP! Because if you give up, you won't be able to reach your goal. When you set a goal you have to meet that goal.
ReplyDeleteAnother story that i have read is "Cat Found" it was a very good book. The Theme of it I think it was how life can be hard at times and great at times. It was a very very Great book.
I think that is a good theme for Scout's Honor too even though they do give up.:) Also that book "Cat Found" sounds really good, I should read it somtime.
DeleteI think the theme of Scout's Honor is accepting things and learning to try new things. I think accepting things is one theme because the boys have to accept that they can't always be tough and accepting the fact that sometimes you just have to give up. I also thought that the theme might be trying new things because the narrator has never been out of the city and now he has tried camping in New Jersey. One book that I really understood the theme to was The Hunger Games. I knew that the theme was life is hard at times and to be confident in your life
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with you Soph. But this book has more than one theme.

ReplyDeleteI think the theme of Scout's Honor is that you should never tell lies, or else you'll be sorry for them.
ReplyDeleteI once read a book that the theme was carried out throught the fifteen book series. the series was called the Guardians Of Ga'Hoole. I think the theme of the series was that you should never ever not act on something you believe in. That's how good always defeats evil.
just o you know Ashley, that's just a question because you don't go to school here
DeleteI think the theme of Scouts Honor was about loyalty and taking a challenge.also i think that it is about learning a lesson.
ReplyDeletepinkpanda
I think the theme is that you should always be perpared and to check things before you go somewhere or do somthing. I reached that conclusion because they weren't really perpared and they gave up. But if they had the right materials they would be able to last. It also would be about learning from mistakes because they learned what to pack and what it was like there.
ReplyDelete*prepared* *something*
DeleteI think the theme of Scouts Honor is that you shouldnt lie to your parents, because youll get in trouble after they find out that you lied to them.

I think that the theme of Scouts Honor is a leason that you aren't always going to be the toughest out of all your friends
ReplyDeleteThis is a question:
ReplyDeletewhat would u rate this story?
I am reading a book called 'Chomp' and it is really good I definitly would read it again.
ReplyDeletei think the story is that you should never give up and not judge people on how they seem, they all acted like they were all tough enough to go camping and they all weren't ready.
ReplyDeleteThat is a good conclusion, I think that is a good theme and is somthing to think about.
DeleteI think the theme is team work. It gets to that conclusion by showing what they had to do to survive alone.
ReplyDeleteI am reading the book "Babysitter part two" by: R.L Stine, the theme is survival too.
i think the theme of the story is you cant always be tougher than others. and but you can be braver. like when the narrator gave up first that makes him braver.
