The novel "Number the Stars" by Lois Lowry is based on true life events--that's what puts it in the historical fiction category! Through this story we have learned about the Holocaust and what life was like for Jewish and non Jewish people at that time. Through resistance efforts people like the Johansens fought in the resistance to save people like the Rosens from Nazi soldiers.
When I was reading this book I was thinking about the author's purpose for writing this story. What major theme or lesson do you think Ms. Lowry wants us to know or think about? Please post a comment about this idea. Also, if you have any suggestions for your classmates for a good historical fiction read, please let us know about it. There is nothing like getting lost in a good book!
I look forward to seeing you on Monday!

I think the lesson is that if there are important things in life that noone else should know about don't tell anyone!
ReplyDeleteI also think the thene is supposed to be one of those suspence storys.

Ha yeah thats kind of what I said so obviously I agree with you! I also agree that this story is very suspenceful, but if we were reading this story on our own we would read it all in one night, so its mostly suspenceful because Mrs. E wont let us read ahead!
Deleteit was very suspencefull!
Deleteyeah i think so to because it is the best book ever and it is cool in a way
ReplyDeletethe anonymous is monk
DeleteI think she is trying to show people that life wasn't fun back then and we should be thankful we don't have to deal with that. Also we get to eat whatever we want because we have butter, cream, coffee, and frosting unlike what people back then had.
ReplyDeletethat reinds me the coffee i had coffee sunday i put 3 creemers and 3 sugars in it at the end of the coffee was all the creamer
DeleteI think you're right we should be thankful that we have sweets and stuff but it kind of reminds me of Thanksgiving
Delete~ Tex
how can people live without butter!!! and i hope the holocaust gets better
Deleteha yeah that's what I was thimking too, and TEX when you said that it made me think it does sound a lot like Thankgiving!
DeleteIt is so true be thankful that you have food exatly like thanksgiving
Delete~ Tex
I no. It would stink if we didn't have all those things that they didn't have!
Deletei think she is trying to make us think about whats in the package and whats going to happen next what im thinking is whats going to happen when the soilders came with their dogs
ReplyDeleteHey I think so to I am so eager to read the wrest of the stoy I am so nerves.
DeleteI know right I am almost losing control!!!

I am very excited to read the rest of the book too! And I am also thinking about what is in the package and what the soldiers are going to do to her.
DeleteSoph
haha yeah I can't believe what just happened at the end now!!!
Deleteya! it was amazing!
DeleteI know! I was sad!
DeleteI think the main purpuse of this story is to tell us how life was during that time
ReplyDeleteShay Dog
I think the autor's main purpose is yo teach us what happened in the past an the hardships these people had to go through. Also the theme could be courage because Annemarie and the rest of the characters have to take a lot of risks throughout the story.
ReplyDeleteSoph
There is a book that I read that is called somthing like The Presidents. It is a good book that talks about what each President did in there term that I think you might like.
DeleteThe main purpose was probably to show you how hard it was and how brave people had to be to live during the Holocaust.I'm also pretty sure that everyone during that time had lost a friend or family member during the Holocaust.
ReplyDelete~ Tex
I agree with you i think was also telling the people reading the book to be brave.
Deletei think the main purpose was to tell people about the life of a little girl in that time. and how her family had to strugle in saving their friends
ReplyDeleteI think she is talking about the sadness that happend and teaching us about all the brave people and all the people that were led by hitler. It was a horible time.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you bugsy
DeleteI totaly agree with you Bugsy. Who do you think from this stroie was the bravest?
DeleteI think she was trying to say that everyone should be brave.
ReplyDeleteYeah that was kind of what I was thinking too.
Deletei would defenently recomend this to someone!! it was a great book!
ReplyDeleteI once read this book about a boy who was on the Oregon Trail, and he wrote about his travel to Oregon. It is Historical Fiction also. There is a second book too.
ReplyDeleteRight now I am reading a historical ficyion book about a girl who goes on the Titanic. It is called "Distant Waves". It is vey good so far and any on ewho like stuff about the Titanic should reeally read it.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like a really good book is it anything like the storie Titanic or is different than it.
DeleteI think the main purpuse of the book was people are brave and some are scard at times. I read the 2nd Diary of a Wimpy Kid-Rodrick Rules, and I think the main pupose is you should get ready to go into middle school with all the bullies and stuff like that. The whole series iis like that, but I don't know about the 7th one The Third Wheel. A differnt book is like that it is about this dog and his owner. I think the main purpose is never give up you can reach your goal. In a movie I wached before called Far From Home is about a dog that gets lost and the main purpose is you can find you friend again.
ReplyDeleteBYE~BYE,
